He texted me today about prices of building or buying and M4/Aug.

Next was MP5s and M4 clones, and finally a sniper.

He's got much to learn, but we all need to start somewhere right?

I'll try to get him to get a shotgun first. Looks like hes going to be using it for range use, so maybe a semi-auto, or bolt rifle. gonna take him to Big 5 next week to take a look, unless he wants to go out to the further local gun stores.

A non issue in CA we just shoot the .50 DTC. Same bullet slightly different case dimensions. Basicly a shortened 50 bmg case, fire formed for a different shoulder, same bullet, same balistics. Several 50 bmg manufacturers make a CA compliant 50 dtc or .416 barret, etc

Hes the same age as me (19).

Originally, his plan was to wait and save until he was 21. I don't know what made him change his mind, but he's sort of backing down into that mindset again.

I say, get a gun as soon as you can, shoot as much as you can. This way you'll have a clearer understanding of firearms safety and responsibilities.

Also, its a LOT easier to point a pistol at something you don't want to destroy compared to a long gun. So maybe by owning a long gun for a few years will develop a better sense of responsibility and safety awareness?

iirc .50 is a popular caliber for muzzle loading hunting. Of course .50 bmg is something else.

Because everyone needs to take a 6$ round to turn a ground hog into a very fine red mist... :)

The really convenient part of it is that you don't need to use a grinder to get hamburger.
