I don't know all the details, only known him for a few months.

He was expressing interest in enlisting in the Army. Went to a recruiter and all that jazz. Got a waiver for dependents... Got through MEPS for his initial visit and had to go back for his MOS (Signal, Communications... something like that). When he arrived he was told to go see so-and-so. He walked in the office and there was this Sgt. and his recruiter in there. He was told that there are no more spots in his MOS of choice and only Infantry remains. This is why his recruiter was there an advised him that he didn't have to sign even though this other Sgt. was pressuring him. He didn't sign and it doesn't look like they are going to take him for anything else.

I feel bad for the guy because he was really looking forward to it. Three young kids and a wife to support and this was his way to a decent life (economy).

I know how bad my enlistment process was and how my recruiter "said" some stuff and I "signed" other stuff. It has been a year since graduating boot camp, months after I finished my A school and I am still on reserve orders.

Does anyone have any advise I can pass to him?

    Thanks.

when i went to meps i was surprised that the army applicants outnumbered the other branches by like 5:1.

spoke to some of them and they are all getting 20~40k signing bonuses :hsugh:

young kids and their glorious outlook on their future balla lifestyle.

Too many dependents or too old (he's 30).

Army is his only option for military right now.

Same here. I went to MEPS for the first time 16 months ago and out of the 180 people they had that day... one other person and myself were there for the USCG. 75% Army, 15% Airforce and the rest were Navy/Marines.

He doesn't know for sure until he talks to all of the branches. Flexibility is the key. I went to basic with a 32 year old.

Thats pretty much how it was when I was at MEPS also... No CG when I was there though, and AirForce was equal to the Navy/Marines combined and there were just gobs and gobs of Army.

He has. Army was his only option as far as the military goes.

Which was why his recruiter met him at MEPS.

I'll ask him this to see if anything could be done.

Better than what he is at now. His wife makes OK money, but he got hit hard this past year with jobs (economy).

I think his recruiter was fighting for him.

Bullshit. I think the dependent cap is like 2 for new enlistees.

I am enlisted man. I know what the pay is... you are listing base pay.

He will get BAH, Dep., and possible hazard, seperation... and all that if he gets deployed.

I had to go to meps twice for them to even get me what I wanted if they don't want to give him what he wants then don't sign . If they want him they will eventually give him what he wants even if it means he has to wait

    Roger that.

That is what I told him.... he is bummed... but at least he won't be stuck in infantry hating life.

Infantry is for some... not all.
