the recruiter is coming friday. it sounds like shes totally in belief of this guy and what he has to say. saying hes not in it just to recruit and that hes a really good guy. hes one of those recruiters that hangs out in the highschools around here. she invited him to her house on friday... asked me to be there, and she wants to discuss her options with him...

im a little wary to say the least. I was in the air force but im trying to stay open minded.. I am however telling her the parts that she doesnt want to hear (conformity, time away from home, WORK, determination). my chick's kind of a quitter... i said that and now shes mad at me... she said it first, i just kind of agreed.

what do you think? she wants to be army reserves non combat. the dude said he had 2 year contracts available, if she goes i'll be the civilian wife following her around base, and i might just enlist too... :bigthumb:

were doing it for financial reasons, college and whatnot. I love military tactics and have been a student of war since i was a wee lad...

what do you think? imma post this in the barracks too thanks guys :x:

I'm guessing she's young? If this is the case and she is the quitter type then maybe the military is what she needs to turn her into a responsible person? I saw it happen with my brother. You can be informative and let her know what to expect, however if you do it in a negative way and talk down to her she will not listen to you. Do you know anyone else that is prior service that can offer her some information and insight as to what she should expect? She may be more open to hearing things from a third party other than yourself and a recruiter.

Pay will be around $2300 per year (unless she is activated), bonuses/incentives can be acquired when she joins depending on what her MOS (job) is. There are programs that will help her pay for college or pay off existing student loans. The amount varies depending on her MOS. If she is activated the benefits will extend to housing, medical/dental and increased salary.

Yeah the amount she gets for college is really going to depend on her MOS.

There is a near 100% chance she would go. There are 2 year enlistments for some jobs, but there is still 6 years of inactive reserve after that where she could be called back.

Go to google and do an image search for one weekend a month my ass. Print the picture and show it to the recruiter when he shows up. :mamoru:

The Army Reserve and National Guard recruiters that I have talked to have all said that there is a 100% chance of being deployed during your enlistment - even if you are a reservist or guard member.

She won't have a 100% chance of going to Iraq. Although it is somewhat likely she would go, it would depend on her MOS and what unit she joins. Also, unless she chooses an MOS that is highly needed, there's little possibility of her being activated after her enlistment is up. I know of very few support MOS's that were called up while in IRR.

It's 18 month IIRC, and the time doesn't start until you finish basic and AIT. I think it's 18 months active duty and then some active reserve time also.

Have you talked with an active duty recruiter? They might have some ideas.
