I see so many Canon 1Ds Mk3's available either new or used for what seems to be really cheap compared to what they used to be. Makes me want to pick one up and use as a primary and my 5D2 as backup. :eek3:

I've been tempted myself but even I have limits on how many cameras one should own.

How many do you have? Currently I only have my 5D2.
Have anything you're looking to get rid of?

Isnt the IQ of the Mkii better than the 1D? I played around with the mkiii at school and I was unimpressed. It's built like a tank but my 700 was cranking out cleaner images at 1600 and up. Not that ISO is everything but still, I expected more.

I suppose I should wait. Even though it would be a business expense, I think an engagement ring would probably be a better purchase first. That is if I want to still have a female companion.

The 1DIII is a 10mp camera. The 5DII is a 21mp camera optimized for high ISO on par with the 1DsIII camera.

    Yes but if I was offered a free 1DsmkIII or a 5DII I'd take the 1Ds.

Yeah thats what I thought...but they're not in the same league, imo.

In any case, back on topic. I would say No on the mkiii

mkIII is a great camera. 10fps, rugged as hell, pretty high ISO performance. I thought long and hard about getting one before I bought my 5DII.

What the hell happened to manual focusing and DOF??

But I'd totally rock this camera if I was a commercial shooter. :x:

Dont forget the shitty focusing and the wonderful CPS attitude that blamed it on the seasoned pros using the camera instead of admitting they had a problem.

Stay away from the MkIII, I couldnt drop mine fast enough.

I thought that Canon fixed that *little* issue?
