How exactly do I get this filed with the VA? Their website is a fucking maze.
call you primary doctor in the VA?
You have to get sick first don't you?
I don't think so. You can get it documented from what I'm being told. That way if you get some related illness down the road, you got that shit on file.
You're right..you can get it noted. Just go in...Much easier.
Make sure it is documented in your service record.
My first ship, USS IOWA (BB61) was full of asbestos. I did maintenance inside vent ducting with it. Better believe I will get a few extra % points on disability when I retire.
i did too for about 3 years
First, i had an evironmental specialist come out and take sampkes of the areas that were immediatly around me on a dailey basis.
Then, when the results came back(they are required to give them to you) the date was at the top, along with the laboratory techs info. Those days along with your record book, are enough to link you with the asbestos.
I then took the info to the VA nearest me, and had the doc make an entry in my med record. He said it was all i needed to collect.Be sure you make a certified true copy of that entry.
Collect what? You get a disability or something without an illness?
Speak with your corpsman about getting an LOD evaluation. (LOD is the note in your file stating your exposure)
