I was looking at the Nikon D40, Canon XTi, Canon XSi, Nikon D80, and Canon 40D. I made a spreadsheet (I can post it later from my regular computer if you guys want) comparing the major features of each and the price. Prices new from Amazon were... D40: $490 (with kit lens, which I don't want nor do I want to spend time selling) XTi: $550 XSi: $800 D80: $750 40D: $960ish (after 200 rebate) I originally wanted the D40, but seeing as how the XTi has a lot more going for it at only $60 more, it made more sense to get the XTi. If I were going to spend any more money, I wouldn't bother spending it on the XSi or the D80...rather I'd jump straight to the 40D because the difference between the XTi and the XSi/D80 isn't enough to justify the price, but the jump up to the 40D would be worth the price. Makes sense right? I figure I'll go with the XTi now with a Tamron 17-50 2.8 and upgrade to the 40D (or 50D if it is out by then) once I grow out of the XTi.
