MMA So it appears that Lutter tapped from the choke not the elbows.

If you look, Lutter is blocking the elbows with his hand. None of them make auctual contact with his head until he moves his hand to tap.

I'm pretty sure he tapped from the elbows. They were hitting his head pretty hard.

The is only one that makes more than just a glancing contact with his head before he tapped

I count two or three at least, also consider when Anderson knocked out Tony Fryklund with that sick elbow. He's got the right technique.

Yeah, but that was a completely different kind of elbow

It was, but it still looks to me like he tapped from the strikes.

he was not being choked. that was a loose triangle, silva wasn't even trying to finish him with it at the time, he was just holding him in place for the elbows.

He tapped from the strikes, the triangle was way too lose, you can see Lutter had his arm on the left side of Silva's body which gives him some breathin room and the triangle was barely locked up too. I think once he started to feel the elbows coming down on his glove/hand, he knew it was over so he tapped out.

I'm pretty sure he tapped from the strikes. If there weren't elbows, he wouldn't have submitted. I think it's hilarious though how cocky Lutter was about his ground game, and how he got walked on none the less.

lol, a friend of mine says Lutter's ground game at least in the pure submission grappling aspect is quite good (second best from bj penn's in the UFC). But... well I guess this match definitely proves the importance of being well rounded and executing a smart game plan. That or anderson got lucky and we need to see a rematch ;)

he tapped from both, he was extremely exhausted and if you've ever been in in a triangle or body triangle you know what i mean, it feels like you can't breathe plus the damn elbows that were reigned down on him gave him the complete feeling of helplessness so he was forced to give up and tap.

plus it wasn't like he was fighting for the title anywyay

I think lutter is 0-2 in ADCC. Off the top of my head Id say Lister and Monson need to be above the two you mentioned.

    were the elbows legal?
it looked like they were coming down from the top, which I thoght was illegal in UFC.

Scirone was right, Lutter did tap out from the choke apparently.

Taken from one of the guys in Clementi's corner(posted on the underground):

"at the UFN in Hollywood, Florida, the commission made Big John McCarthy explain in detail a few of the rules, much to the aggravation of the fighters before the weigh in.

He said it absolutely does not matter what part of the elbow strikes the opponent UNLESS they are coming straight from the ceiling, spiking down at the opponent.

Said you can be in any other position but top, and purposely striking with the point with intent to damage in anyway. Just so long as the elbow does not come from the ceiling, straight down on the opponent."
