I keep hearing mixed things on this, is there any sort of final word? I probably never would have worried about it but since magpul sends out the dust cover things with their PMAGS... For what it's worth I have both PMAGS and the metal type.

Yes, it's fine. I've left a few fully loaded PMAGs out for close to a year and they function flawlessly.

I think that a spring wears out through repeated compression and decompression. sustained compression doesn't hurt it.

  4. With the covers on?

  5. What people are usually concerned with in the AR world is feed lip creep.

I was more concerned about the feed lips wearing out from the constant pressure.

Without. I specifically wanted to test function after long term storage w/o the dust covers.

If you guys actually care past a cursory knowledge...Robert Silvers wrote a pretty interesting piece on the myth that chrome silicon springs cannot take a 'set' on SilencerTalk.

Not being snooty, it's just totally useless scientific knowledge. I dunno if anybody would find it interesting. I thought it kinda was.

This will happen over time; I have taken mags that were left loaded since the early 70's, shot them off and had no issues with them over several hundred rounds.

Not scientific, but enough to convince me to not worry about it.
