I have been thinking about going to an IDPA event this summer, but dont know a whole lot about it. Is it fun? How much does it usually cost to enter? What would be a better gun to take, my SIG 226 or XD9 SC? Give me some info guys, how are the majority of the ppl. that enter (skill level)?

It's extremely fun, and you can find local IDPA events in your area, they're only $15 or so to enter. Whether you should take your 226 or XD9, take the one you shoot better with, most local IDPA events aren't anal about holster types and whatnot like the regional and national events are.

Haven't looked yet, just glanced at the idpa website and found some regional event that was $100 to enter. Where would I find local events?

do a google search for IDPA and your town or state.
I used it yesterday to find out there is one here tomorrow that I am thinking of entering.

I went and watched today after some shooting time on the range, and I wasn't impressed with the snobbishness attitudes and mall ninjaesque feeling of some here. It reminded me of a pack of dogs sniffing out the new dog in the kennel. Alot of aloof looks, rarely any smiles to me. (maybe cause i was the only black guy there and I was armed? lol) I almost had the feeling I was at a militia or white power meeting a few times.

I had one yahoo walk up to me while I was sitting on the hood of the car watching from back in the back and he's literally screaming at me "Is that loaded?? Is that loaded???" Then he makes a very bad mistake. He reached for my 45 that was in my shoulder holster. I grabbed his fingers and bent them back and told him NEVER touch someone's gun without permission. The range officer ran over and shooed the little asshole off and said that it was a cold range and they don't allow loaded weapons so I took it off and stowed it in the car but reminded him that it was a public range so I didn't have to take it off or unload it since I wasn't on the range shooting, but since he was polite and asked, I would.

I will go back next time though and shoot just to see how I do.

Apparently the little nazi has a history of being an asshole with their group. I hope I screwed up his trigger finger.

Remember in Blazing Saddles when Clevon Little rides into Red Rock as the new Sheriff? Give me an orange suede outfit and a cowboy hat and that was pretty much spot on.

you could have shot him, if you wanted to. if a dude is going for my gun, i'm of the belief that he's going to try to shoot me.. normal strangers dont go reaching for your loaded .45.. i'd punched him in the windpipe and taught him a lesson. seriously.
