Ive been growing more and more sick of my og digi rebel that ive had for nearly 4 years and want to upgrade. Ive been considering a D80 for awhile now for a number of reasons. Anyways i found a new D80 with the 18-135mm lens on craigslist for 950 and im thinking of jumping on it. I know about the distortion issues on that lens and i think i can deal with them especially with things like PTlite in PS. what do yall think

I would highly suggest not switching over. The Nikon cost/benefit is worse. The lenses cost quite a bit more and feel way more flimsy. Get a different Canon body, like the XTi or 1D if you got the Benjamins. This is just my experience though, and I run a lens rental shop.

Hook me up with an XTI raw file. :x:

edit: Actually if you got one from D50 for the same scene even better.

who cares what the file looks like out of the camera?

I say shoot in RAW and adjust the saturation to your liking.

to the original poster: stick with Canon. After owning my 30D for 8 months, the only "drawback" i've found is that Nikon has a better flash system.

Good photography is dependent on what is BEHIND the viewfinder, not the brand name on it.

well its the darkside because ive used canon's for a long time (since film) but i dont like the ergonomics of any of the new canon bodies but i love the feel of the d80. plus seeing as i dont have any good canon lenses i dont really feel like id be losing much from the switch.

i say "who cares, its your money, and both camera systems [just like the old days] take essentially the same picutes"

also, nikon is the dark side...Canon has too much white glass to be dark...

    mmmmmmmmm white glass...

Nope, we are not the same person. Though we seem to be both brand new members.

I had a canon S1IS for a few years that just gave up the ghost. I switched over to Nikon because money was tight and I got a D40 at a really good price.

I like it. And the shots it takes with the kit lens, while not being spectacular, arn't bad either:

good points...one of the main selling points when I bought my d70. I just don't like the way the canon's feel in my hand
