and a guy asks about legality of carrying a pistol in your car, loaded.

Now Oklahoma is a pretty easy going state as far as firearms go, but you should read the crap people will throw out there like they know what they are talking about.

    1. There is a guy on there that is always talking about guns and going to the range (it's a car site). He says that you can carry a pistol in the car w/o a round chambered. He says "as long as you have it unloaded it's ok". WTF??? Mag-loaded is loaded when it comes to a pistol.

    2. Then another guy comes on and posts that you can carry a loaded pistol if you are travelling over 2 counties away. Geez.

These guys have to be young kids that have no idea what they're talking about right? I was kinda cracking up, but kinda like :ugh: at the same time.

Unloaded and un-accessible from the passenger compartment unless you have a CCW in Michigan. If you have a truck or something with no trunk then it basically has to be locked up and hard to get to.

In other words, your handgun has to be absolutely useless to you while traveling unless you have a CCW.

Locked and loaded is fine if you can legally own it in Colorado. I can carry it concealed on my person, in a glovebox, in a holster somewhere, in the seat next to me or anywhere else I want to as long as it's in my car. As far as whether or not it's loaded, if there's no round in the chamber it's not loaded. You can have a full magazine in the gun and as long as a round isn't chambered it's not loaded.

I didn't know that. So in Colorado you don't have to have a CCL?

Oklahoma specifies "mag loaded, clip loaded, and chamber loaded". You may be correct for Colorado, but here in OK you would be S.O.L.

Sadly colorado is one of the few states that actual makes that distinction to my knowledge. In illinois it just has to be unloaded and nothing is said of the chamber but I certainly wouldn't try to call a full mag and emtpy chamber unloaded here :(

If it weren't for the bad things the altitude would do to my car's ET, I'd be thinking about how cool Colorado is all of the sudden.

The thing is it doesn't have to be "unloaded" in Colorado unless it's a rifle. It's very specific about there having to be a round in the chamber for it to be considered loaded, though. I can keep a rifle in my car and it can have rounds in the magazine. It just can't have a round in the chamber. As far as handguns are concerned they can be locked and cocked no matter what.

there are rules for every state and even cities/counties.

Here in Nevada you can carry a loaded gun in the car anywhere you want to, be it in the glovebox or laying on the seat. Doesn't matter if you have a CCW or not.

BUT....if you travel into Vegas city limits that changes because they have local laws. In a couple small towns they require that the chamber be cleared but you can keep a loaded mag in the gun.

Well, the guy who told me you could carry a loaded pistol if you were travelling more than 2 counties away just replied and told me he was from Texas. Since his car has Texas plates the law in Texas extends to him and his car.

:ugh: If that were the case, then why would we even worry about reciprocity. :nono:

in NY if you dont have a carry permit it has to be unloaded stored seperately from ammo.

For Cali, specifically Alameda County, you can transport an unloaded pistol in a locked container, aside from the glove or center console compartment. The trunk counts as a locked compartment. Long guns, I believe, just needs to be unloaded.

And yea, some states define "unloaded" as not having one in the chamber...so you can have a loaded mag in there.

Not 100% positive, but I'm pretty sure in Mo you're allowed to carry it loaded and concealed in your car without the concealed carry permit, I think that part was a rider on the concealed carry bill that passed a few years back.

CHP will even pull over out of state police cars and order the officers to lock their sidearms in the trunk. Verm or one of the guys in his dept. was pulled over while transporting a prisoner from Tahoe to Sacramento.
