I'm just looking around to make sure everything is coposetic before I hand the computer over to my mother and I took a look at the display properties. It has in there the 'dual monitor' adapter and the display properties are 1024/768 with the only other option as 800/600. That looked a bit suspect so I took a look in system devices and there are 3 'default monitors' and a 'plug and play monitor'.

It looks as if she was using the dual display to watch movies on a tv or something or maybe hooking up a monitor to the laptop. Is there a way for me to remove these other monitors and setup the display properties with only 1 monitor option?

    The computer is a laptop.

The default monitors don't really mean anything. As long as you have the settings on single monitor (ie. not clone, extend, span, etc.) then you'll be fine.
