As most of you've probably heard from me in the past, I've been pretty dedicated with The Planet and ASO. Unfortunately, the node my server was on at ASO had a hardware failure. The best part about it, they do not backup their VPS servers unless you purchase a $25/mo backup plan. FAIL. Fortunately, I do have backups I made of my own.

With their recent experience of being hacked, their shared services starting to suck, and now this... I'm going to recommend everyone stay far far away from ASO. They were once extremely great. I don't have anything good to say now.

On another note, I will continue my ventures with my VPS over at LiquidWeb. :hsd:

    More ASO failure...

They created me a VPS account on another node so I can get my clients websites backup and running... Which was nice, if I was actually able to do so. Since then (three hours ago), I've been getting httpd and ftpd restart emails in interval of 5 minutes... And I haven't even done anything with the servers. :ugh: And the DNS zones are completely shit. I tried to fix to the best of my ability and it's still fucked.

It took them 4 hours to respond to a ticket about this.

once you go full rack you don't go back. There's nothing like driving 15 min to the colo and tossing a new server in.

Just upgraded to a 10x12 cage. I might have to put a cot in there for my network admin.

ASO was good when it started... tim dorr, the creator, was a mod on Neowin, that's where I originally found out about it. It grew too fast for them to handle, I guess :\

I used LW for several years back in the day. Awesome company. Do not use them anymore because daddy doesn't pay for my servers anymore, and I have no serious websites. Good choice though.

or you could just pick up the phone and have that same server installed in 30 minutes, except you won't have to wait a week for the server to get delivered, and won't have to do the grunt work of setting it up

Good luck getting a hosting company to deploy a server with TDM hardware in 30 minutes.

standard dedicated is fine for people who don't need special hardware. There's more to the web than just webservers. :kdubb:

    :h5:

We have a 5 rack suite/cage in a datacenter just a couple of minutes from our office.

Wow, what a fall from grace for ASO though. They used to be very highly regarded but it looks like they haven't kept up with the times at all.

I like how they refer to the hacker as male :mamoru:

    Probably was a disgruntled employee.

A Small Orange used to be great, but I started noticing problems about a year ago and had to switch hosts. Don't get me wrong when I first started they were amazing in support and speeds, but after that it somewhat started to get slowed down.

I'm interested in Liquidweb but might be doing a diffrent option reccomeneded by another memeber on here, but I know Liquidweb has great credit behind it,.
