and want to take some pics of my buddies and I snowboarding. Bad idea to take my new rebel xt? I'm usually really careful with my stuff.

Would I need a tripod for evening shots? Would the snow reflect enough light at sunset to not warrant needing a tripod?

If you meter off the snow everything's going to look really dark. What lens would you bring? Kit lens?

Figure out what the darkest ambiant light you can shoot in and still get 1/60-1/80 exposures that look normal. Then that's pretty darn close to the best you'll do even with the snow. I think.

Frankly I'd rather have a little P&S for going skiing. Be to worried about the DSLR. Dangit, I need a little P&S. :o

Yeah, Im kinda worried about its size. But ill probably just keep it in my backpack wraped amongst as extra sweatshirt and food stuffs. I wish I had a nice p&s for this too. Oh well, maybe in the future.

can't shoot any P&S in raw that i know of, and wouldn't be able to meter it very well off of palm either.
