I've got an appointment with a recruiter tomorrow - I know BMT is 6 (+1/2) weeks, and he told me specialty school is 12 weeks (security forces) - what are the priveliges during BMT and specialty school like? I know you get a phone call after your first week or somethin like that, just to give your mailing address, what are the priveliges? Do you get any leave during specialty school, or are you stuck on base all the time like BMT?

Kiss privledges goodbye......you might get a patio break once in a while during BMT.....and you can get mail (NO CARE PACKAGES!!!!!!!!)

Security Forces school is alot like BMT...in fact its quite simliar to BMT.....but I do belief they go through the Phase program (a graduated level of how much freedom you get)

Phase 1 No on the town privledge

Phase 2 On the town privledge but onl in blues

Phase 3 On the town Privledges with a Curfew

Phase 4 On the Town Privledge with no curfew.

Keep in mind you can get busted back to phase on if you fuck up in school....even just a little one....

    Good Luck :wavey:

What's on the town privelige? Off-base pass?

And yeah, I knew BMT was basically work. work. get yelled at. work. work. repeat. :)

:bsflag: :p Haha thanks, I aim to please :) - Actually, I posted a couple weeks ago trying to decide between Army National Guard MOS's - look how that plan changed haha.

How long of a wait is there usually between signing and shipping out to BMT? I've heard USCG can be up to 6 months, I hope it's not long :(

I like the Guard over the reserves because you get STATE benefits in addition to Federal....not only that if the AF wants to close your base they have to go through the governor first

I was under the impression that's only in Pennsylvania and Connecticut... and even that is being appealed by the feds.

I would rather have AD benefits and be able to make rank easier.
My father-in-law is in the AFR and he tells me all the time to stay AD.

Its actually been law since the Govt passed legislation making the Guard out of the "Organized Militia's" 50 years ago.....and of course the feds are appealing.....

The Guard is the first line of aid during ANY state of emergency period.....the feds just cant close a Guard base just because they want to sae money they may beable to take their planes but thats just about it....

AD has its advantages.....75% base pay at retirement ) and you can get that right after you retire (after 20 years) add to that the guard gets screwed by only 50% of base pay at retirement and you can only get that after you reach 55.

School benefits...you cant beat the guard....alot of state have programs in ADDITION to the feds.....give or take i guess :dunno:

    AFRC != Teh Guard

AFRC is Federal, Guard is State with benefits granted from the state, hell even the guard get awards that the AFRC cant

if your only reason to go officer is to make more money then you should reconsider that.

I don't know how it is in the Army, but the Senior enlisted do just as much, if not more work than the officers, and get paid less. I can play the political game.
A Major with 10 years in makes more than a Cheif (E-9) does with 30 years. Granted the Cheif gets more respect, but respect does not pay the bills, or feed the kids. Unlike you, I have a wife and child right now, so the more money I make the more it can actually go towards my enjoyment.
I also plan on having 5 kids.

It isn't the only reason, but it is at the top.

One other thing......and Officers/SNCO's actions are more scrutinized.
