Well, trying to at least... I wont have any problems with the physical, ASVAB, legal troubles or any of that, but somethings aren't looking my way (I have a little debt, GED...). I am really shooting for the AF, both my father and grandfather were in and my Fiancee and I have a little one on the way. Anybody here have any tips or info that could help me on my way? Thanks alot ya'll!

Clear up the debt as soon as possible. You don't want to have to go through the hassle of getting a waiver for it.

Then good luck with it. Financial problems and a GED isn't the greatest way to apply into a military service cutting back on personnel. If the AF won't take you have you thought about other branches?

How much debt? It will really be a problem if you want to do a job that requires a secret security clearance. As far as the GED, be persistant. Ride your recruiter. If you show motivation, it will be a big positive.

In th AF, maybe a bit harder. However, if someone is persistant, and will not take no for an answer, they may be impressed enough to make him one of the exceptions.

Not an insane amount, somewhere between 1000 and 2000. I'm most likely not looking for something that would need a secret security clearance, just an electrical or mechanical engineer position. Thanks for the advise, the recruiters office is only about 2 or so miles from me, I can switch my run route every day to go right by him :big grin:

That ain't shit, son. 1-2k is not a big ding. Just make your payments on time. People who are deep in debt are a security risk because they may sell secrets. :dunno:

Listen to me VERY closely. ALL RECRUITERS LIE AND EMBELLISH. If you don't see it on paper, it's not going to happen.

I'm surprised no one has picked up on the baby. The AF will NOT let you enlist with a bastard child. You must be married or have your SO sign some paperwork. If you are getting married before you join then this will not be a problem. If she backs out of the marriage, then you could be screwed.

No matter which branch you join, you can get help with the debt under SCRA.

Bob and Jill have a kid named Matt. Bob and Jill are not married. If Bob or Jill want to enlist in the AF, they have to get married to each other, or both Bob and Jill have to sign some legal documents regarding the guardianship of Matt.

If you are already in the AF, then anything goes, but to enlist it is different. I would think that officers are the same.

NOTE: THIS IS AF SPECIFIC AND DOES NOT APPLY TO OTHER SERVICES.

basically if you have custody of a child and are not married you have to sign it over to somebody else before you can enlist

    AFRSI36-2001

2.15. Disqualification Because of Family Members:
2.15.1. An unmarried applicant who has physical or legal custody of a family member incapable of
self-care is classified as a single-member sponsor by the Air Force. Because of this sponsor responsibility,
the applicant does not have the flexibility required to perform worldwide duty, short notice
TDY, remote tours, and varied duty hours. Therefore, an applicant falling into this category is ineligible
for enlistment unless permanent physical and legal custody has been transferred by court order.
