The recruiter said that I can get a non combat job in the states and I will get a shit load of money if I go but I dont want to go to Iraq and almost all of my friends dont want me to join. Half the reason I am joining is because I dont have any money to go to college and I dont want to strugle my whole life. I have about two weeks to think it over.

You might want to get that whole " non combat" thing in writing before you end up with a tax free dessert weekend getaway after training. Most everyone will tell you to NOT ship out with an open contract and word of mouth promises.

    NON COMBAT!

     Non combat related job does not mean you will not be deployed. Finance and Admin related jobs are considered non combat related and they are sitting in Iraq along with the Killers.

you make shit loads of money if you get shot and die too.

if money is the only motivation for you to be in the army then two weeks after you get dropped into iraq (which you will) you'll most likely die or else endanger other soldiers within your vicinity.

If you don't want to see combat, why not join the Navy where you'll be on a fricken boat hundreds if not thousands of miles away all the flying bullets or the Coast Guard where you'll be CONUS. You'll still get the GI Bill and all that good stuff and you'll still honorably serve in the military.

Chair Force still has bases in Iraq and people in non-combat roles are still pulling convoys and whatnot, so you could still end up seeing combat and many have. That's why I left them off.

Every time I have ever spoken with a recruiter, since 9/11, they have all said the same thing: If you sign up, whether you go Active, Guard, or Reserve, you can bet your mother's last penny that you will be deployed to a combat zone.

That might be an exaggeration, but I would be willing to bet that if you sign up you're gonna get sent to Iraq, Kuwait, or Afghanistan at least once during your enlistment period. If that is something that you absolutely cannot deal with, then you need to sign up at McDonalds or Walmart instead of the Army. They are always looking for a few good flippers/stockers.

oh yea, break your leg, shoot yourself, its all the same to the army. They need people to sit in orderly rooms and the the ORB or run the MWR in Iraq. People who are immobile and just sit there.

NON COMBAT!!!! YOU'RE A SOLDIER FIRST, then you are your MOS

My neighbors son like 4 doors down is some sort of mechanic in the Marines and his unit was just retrained as a provisional rifle company and will be heading to Iraq soon.

He thought he was just going to be turning wrenches when he signed on the dotted line :mamoru:.
