I dont know what one to get. I have all qualifications for a M1 (including the club) and the prices are going up. On the other hand AK part kits seem to be drying up. I would spend the 675 on a H&R service grade or around 350-400 for the AK including the jig. I know a couple people that want to build a ak as well so the jig could be spread across a few people. I also have 1000 rounds of 7.62 laying around already

as much as i would like an m1, i would get the AK. with the possibility in the air of a ban (dont know how likely it is, but still), plus you've already got 1k rounds.

    :dunno:

How do you go about building your own AK? I've heard they're only like $150-200 to build your own?

Well if you'll have the cash for the one you don't do now in the next 6 months or so I'd say do the AK first, M1 prices probably wont go up much if any at all in the next 6 months, decent cheap ak kits on the otherhand are starting to dry up and keep going up in price.

If you can swing the garand and a kit do that, ak receivers shouldn't be going up much the reciever and building parts could wait till later.

I'd pay the extra $100ish and get a Polish. Yugo's aren't chrome lined and if its a Century Yugo the QC isn't so hot.

edit: Can you dry fire AK47s?

Classic's yugo's I think are ok as long as you dont mind the non chrome thing. Yeah ak's can be dry fired.

Thanks for the answer appreciate it.

What's the downside to being non chome? And which part are you referring to?

All AK's except yugo's and ones with U.S. made barrel's are chrome lined, makes cleaning a bit easier and offers a bit more protection against corrosive ammo.

barrel, chrome lined refers to a thin lining of chrome within the barrel to help combat corrosion

If a guy wanted to buy a NEW AK74, where would he look and who makes the best?

I'd look at Arsenal's, Saiga conversions or ones built off new polish kits. I think Atlantic carries all 3.

either that, or get a kit, 100% receiver, and pay a smith to build it for you (thats what I ended up doing, I love mine :big grin:)

I would probabally get a kit and 100% reciever and build it myself. I dont think I'm going to buy a $120 spot welder and $140 jig just to build a couple ak's. On the other hand I think I might have trouble finding someone in sac to transfer a reciever. If anyone knows one they should pm me :x:
