I'm going to be fasting for 30 days - no eating or drinking while the sun is up.

I'm an ectomorphic type - so its going to suck i've been working really hard to gain weight lately and its all likely going to disappear.

Besides eating a ton in the morning and at night.
Would it be wise to still lift during the day?
I don't want my body to start consuming the muscle for energy.

    For you bro,
I'd just eat a reasonable ammount in the morning, and not stuff your face completely at night before you sleep.

Your metabolism will slow down from not eating all day, and if you stuff your face before your sleep, you might actually gain weight during Ramadan.

    For myself:
I might keep a record of my decreases in strength and mass just for kicks
I think its kind of think inevitable. We'll see - any advice would be great.

Is switching your days and nights outta the question? just sleep in till like 5 inthe evening and stay up till 5 in the morning, 24 hour gym, and you got it made.

If possible, lift right after the sun goes down. You don't want to enter the gym in a catabolic state (complete empty stomach) and you also need to make sure you're eating a good amount of food after your training as well for recovery, repair, and growth.

I recommended this routine for a friend of mine who is also has to fast.

As the sun begins to set and you can eat for your first meal RESIST the urge to gorge yourself... This is going to make you too full and lazy to workout and will spike insulin levels. Eat a small, protein and carb packed meal the second the sun goes down (let's say 6:30pm). Give yourself the necessary time to digest (30min or an hour) then hit the gym.

Upon getting out of the gym at say 9pm eat a typical post workout shake and some fast absorbing carbs.

30min after that go ahead and eat a large meal. Get in a good amount of healthy fats, carbs, and as much protein as you can handle.

Prior to bed make a protein shake and keep it in the fridge. Wake up in the middle of the night (3 am or whatever) and go pound that shake and go back to bed.

Wake up before the sun rises and eat another huge meal similar to the post workout one, but more breakfast-esque.

If you follow this, your workouts will not go to waste and you can still get in enough nutrients, protein, carbs, fats, to keep muscle growth alive and well.
My friend followed this for 30 days and only lost 2 lbs and looked pretty similar after the 30 days as he did before the 30 days.

Also, I would take a daily multi if you're not already doing so.

That being said, I don't know how the fuck you guys do this shit and why. No food is one thing, but no water.... That shit is retarded.

My buddy did this for a while. He didn't have a job and his school schedule was only twice a week.

He was at a 24 hour gym and would stay up eating, working out, playing video games, etc... Until sun rise and then sleep until 3pm. By the time he woke up, went for a run and showered it was sunset again

It's basically intermittent fasting, which happens to be gaining popularity in the fitness world. Intermittent fasters will basically eat their day's worth of calories within about an 8 hour time frame. See leangains.com for more info.

Sounds great - only thing I might have difficulty with is drinking a protein shake at 3am then going back to sleep.

Thanks ill post my results hopefully in 30days - I really dont mind having no gains this month, but I really dont want to have any losses :x:

As for "why", its obviously religious - and to keep it short - its just showing submission and respect.

    Again, thanks :)

I followed it for a couple of weeks. I was more awake and alert during the day. However, being a former fatty and having an overeating tendancy, this diet encourages binging. I think 3 or 4 times during that 2 weeks, when it was time to eat, I would eat what I prepared and then I would still binge out on all kinds of junk food. This diet is not good for people with eating disorders.

BCAAs are branched chain amino acids. I've never used them but they are supposed to be anti-catabolic.. i.e. they stop muscle breakdown. You can get them in pill form or in a powder form (to make a drink with.) The one I suggested is Scivation Xtend which is decent value for money.

HMB is another amino acid derivative which helps stop muscle loss during a cut. Might be of some use in maintaining strength and muscle mass. I've never tried and tested it but scientific evidence does support it.

I don't know how much use they'll be during the day because nothing can pass your lips, right? Not even tablets?
