So when you're lifting and you do lots of burnouts, drop sets, etc.. lots and lots of reps/volume.. and then your arm pretty much stops working later, is it because you've exhausted all the ATP?

i went a little overboard today and now my left arm (bicep) pretty much refuses to do anything.. cant flex it, can't bend it at the elbow.. i had to physically lift it up and put it on the steering wheel when i was coming home from the store after i was done at the gym.

this happens to my quads as well after high volume squatting.. so is it a lack of ATP?

My guess would be that it might be related to calcium, magnesium and actin/myosin.

skeletal muscle cells aren't going to run out of ATP.

no cell just runs out of ATP, shit would literally die if that happened.

along with a calcium/magnesium problem, it could be a neurotransmitter problem

it could be caused by acetylcholine levels being exhausted, there are some viruses that attack these and cause permanent paralysis

don't remember exactly, but when exerting force muscle spindles tighten and then more and more fibers are "activated" from smallest to largest..and acetylcholine is the neurotransmitter in the neuromuscular junction and some other crap i can't remember right now :wtc:

i was just thinking out loud, neurotransmitters do have to be produced and transported by kinesin (atp hydrolysis) into vesicles so its entirely possible that you could experience something similar to curare poisoning

the calcium ion buildup that stfu mentioned doesn't make sense to me, since that would actually increase neurotransmitter release, since ca2+ binds to ports on vesicles causing them to bind to the presynaptic membrane and dump their loads

i just overworked myself. i was just wondering waht the physiological mechanism was that causes it.

i dont have a disease, you friggin' nutjob.

i never said you had a disease, just comparing the mechanism. most of our understanding of what specific receptors do is due to pathological effects or exogenous ligands.

:/ is such a useful and helpful addition to this forum. When Pur becomes "un PC" hopefully it'll be rectified.
