There's been a lot of talk on here about SHTF scenarios and bug-out bags so I thought I'd ask here. Let's try to keep this as realistic as possible. In all likelihood there probably won't be a complete meltdown of government and there probably won't be a large-scale revolution or invasion any time soon. That pretty much leaves us with terrorist attacks, natural disasters, and widespread rioting (or any combination of these since rioting and looting tend to accompany any sort of SHTF scenario.)

Let's say one of these happens in your area. You have enough food/water supply to last several weeks, and whatever guns/ammo you normally keep stocked. You're not really in any immediate danger, but what do you do? Depending what happens government will probably do an evac katrina-style. Do you stick it out in your home? Do you try to get out and travel to nearby relatives? Live in the woods :dunno:?

I realize there's a lot of variables at play here, but when you envision a SHTF scenario what exactly are you preparing for and what's your plan?

Thought I accidentally posted this in OT at first.

I sat down and decided to put together a list for a bug-out bag and I realized I don't really have a plan. My closest relatives are my parents and they live by Chicago (4ish hour drive) so that's probably out of the question...

if i couldn't wait it out at home i'd head for the woods :o

well i have like 6 maps of WA state and some VERY detailed maps of Mt. Rainer
and other national parks in the area.

so i'd just head up to the mountains (like an hour away)
and steal a log cabin up there and hunt for food :dunno:
i have enough camping supplies that i could easily survive on my own for a few months,
but it'd be nice to hunt for some food and steal a timeshare cabin :hsd:

Stay with family in upstate NY via routes west of where I live to avoid east coast traffic. We have lots of land up there.

  7. I'd head for my parents' cabin near Mt.Baker. I'd grab my AR, all the ammo I could bring, water and food if needed, and then whatever other guns/ammo I had the ability to take. There are enough guns and ammo waiting at the cabin to run a small-scale war.

head to the agreed-upon meeting place and haul all the necessary (food, water, meds, guns, etc) along country roads, avoiding all interstates and major landmarks.

those places will be like Riot-magnets:o
Ive thought about that also once
you will need more than dozen people with firearms whom you can trust with your life to defend one of those.

I live kinda close to small mountain i guess I can camp there and take over one of the houses way up the mountain:eek3:

I'll take pics when it's light out. Its a 50's era shelter that came with the house ;-). Has power, an air filter and pump that can be run off of power or hand crank.

I think I'd go to my buddy Dave's place up north. Big house right on the lake, guest house, and pole barn. :dunno: Plenty of land to hunt and fish, not many neighbors, secure indoor parking for vehicles, a couple of fuel drums....

It was gonna be my man-cave but I decided food water and some self-defense and arms stuff was more important... with this economy never know when you might be out of work for months and have to live sustainance style for a while.
