if you have paid attention to my Fight Club threads, i did my first MMA style fight (except no elbow or knees involved).

my opponent was a far greater stand up fighter than i was, but didn't know how to throw a kick, plus he had a 5" reach advantage, so i kept away enough so he wouldn't hit me. when he threw a punch i ducked and went for the takedown. then we were in my world. so i worked from half guard, passed, took side control and kept working him with some hammerfists. kept going until he went to his stomach. took back control, and attempted a RNC. no dice, he defended well enough to make me skip it for the second, and attempted an armbar from the back. nothing. he slipped his arm out, we scrambled, i went for another takedown and got caught in a guillotine. worked the escape and broke his guard after freeing my head. took side control again, and went for the armbar. by that point i could sort of sense my opponent was tired, so it didn't take much effort to get it. got the submission at 2:50 of the first round.

i thought it was bad since my standup wasn't even there and also that it was against a guy who had no ground work.

    :hs:

i wish there were actual gyms around me, these guys don't know what they're doing and we've already had some bad injuries from over aggressive fucks.

i'm happy i won, but i know i could've done better, like a lot better.

the thing is, there isn't any form of instruction by anyone qualified, i'm the BJJ co-instructor and i'm only 19.

one guy got his should hyperextended somehow during a grappling match, i was out that day studying for an exam, another guy broke two fingers because his opponent thought it was legal (we have since barred him from practicing with us). we have a list of allowed moves in our gym. and we all point it out to the new guys. which the perpetrator was.
just stupid injuries that shouldn't have happened.

    you dont own a car?

call me an old man, but shit like this is just worse for the sport. I*m glad you won and wish you guys had more opportunities out there. But one of you guys breaks a neck and its just awful publicity.

that's why i'm trying to find someplace to go. i completely understand what you mean dude. we try and keep it safe, but shit happens ya know. and the reasons why i don't have a car are this 1) don't have enough money for a car 2) don't have insurance 3) need an additional 50 bucks to park on campus.

i might change schools by the summer. who knows.
