Well, my first meet went as well as I could hope for. I either matched or exceeded all my gym records.

I weighed in at 255 (!) so I was in the baluga weight class. :( I'll be cutting starting tomorrow.

There were only about 10 lifters there. Very small meet, but everybody was cool and helpful.

    Anyhow, my numbers:

    Squat:
    365
    385
405 (I honestly could have done 430 without a problem)

    Bench:
    215
235 MISS (pressed before the judge said to)
    245

    DL:
    455
    485
500 MISS - only about 5" off the ground. I was tired by this point.

So an 1135 total. I wanted to break 1100, so I'm pretty happy. I now know what judges are looking for, so I've confirmed my squats are deep enough, I pause long enough on bench, etc. I also made some good contacts.

Oh, and I saw my first 475 raw bench press (his record is 500 something).

I was the exact opposite. While I'm glad I did a meet, I really didn't enjoy myself while I was there. I have absolutely no plans to compete in a PL meet again.

I don't know why I didn't enjoy it. I don't really like being the center of attention, but at the same time I was oblivious to everything but the weight once I heard my name called so I don't think that was the issue. I was just nervous and exhausted as hell the entire time. I was also disappointed with how I did so that didn't help things. I was supposed to have somebody handle me for the meet and he ended up ignoring me pretty much the entire time which sucked.

If you're competitive with yourself you should like PL since you're always trying to beat your own numbers...

It's not for everyone though. Nothing wrong with that.

I didn't say I didn't like PL. I didn't like doing a PL meet, but I loved always trying to beat my numbers in the gym.

This was a post i made right after the meet.

Well, the meet went pretty well. I suck at bench and long pause reps didn't help. I rarely ever do pause reps, let alone long pause reps. I went 7 for 9, so not too bad. I think I could've done 450 for my final deadlift attempt, but the 425 was already a 25 lb PR. The most I've done for squat in the gym is 405 and I got cocky and tried 415 at the meet for my last attempt. My eyes were fucking red as hell and felt like they were going to explode afterward. Anyway, here are the vids. Comments, advice, questions, and criticism is welcome. All raw, obviously.

Also, why do you think you have to wait a year or two to do a meet?

All the lifts were shitty, but especially the bench. I had planned to go 270 on my third attempt, but since I fucked up my 2nd I did the same weight for my 3rd.

Well my form is no good as I've learned recently so I think it will take at least a few months to improve that.

Also I don't see a point in competing until I've actually achieved what I consider decent numbers... even if I come in last place. What I lift now most people can do in like a year of lifting :dunno:

And the guys I workout with now get me really pumped up/good support like I'd get at a meet anyway :o

for your first couple meets, don't worry about how you'll place. get in there and have a good time.... get your form shit fixed first, which they will fix for you at Anvil. Get in there and enjoy the atmosphere.

And you're training with Canada's biggest bencher, bet your ass you will enjoy meets with that crew.
