and the photographer had a d50 kit and thats it. as a request by the bride i took some candids that the photographer would probably miss. the photographer was horrible! she let people with p&s walk all over her and get in front of her when taking pictures, and take pictures while she was metering her camera to shoot.

She doesn't sound like a professional. I don't do it professionally but I've been to a number of weddings where I've asked to take shots and I'm tactful in not letting people get in my way. Besides, in most cases, people see what your doing and they'll let you do your thing.

Honestly, I think it is how your dressed and the kind of equipment your shooting with and how you establish your self. It doesn't matter if your the hired photographer, uncle Joe, or cousin Mike... there are always people taking pictures at a wedding. I tend to agree, if your aunt Helen with your $800 Canon, people will walk in front you and you wont have good pics if you don't have presence.

At weddings, its always about expectations and communication.

There's many wedding that don't have that, since so much is going on in one day and people get all stressed, but overall people manage to pull it off with some flaws.

The 1st wedding I went to this summer the professional photographer there (he was not a wedding photographer, more of a fashion product photographer... he was just doing it as a favor) was walking around with the D100 and the 85 1.4 and an index card over the built in flash as a diffuser. His assistant had a canon P&S.

My family told me most of the pictures I took at the wedding (reception because that's the only thing I shot) were better than his.

I know people put alot of "blur" type effects to wedding pictures, Which I'm not really sure How it's done. But that seems to be the trend :o

that looks pretty good. he has some minor complexion issues you could probably clean up, other than that i would leave it alone. less is more.

post processing wedding stuff is the exact opposite of automotive photography, I'll never get the hang of it.
