And i'm wondering, is this good? is this decent? should i stock up on more? or is there something better I could be using? I'd hate to stock up on something for SHTF only to have it suck.

Hydrashoks are "okay" but not fantastic. They were good in their day, 20 yrs ago.
There's better technology now, and better defensive rounds. Check out HST's, Ranger-T's and Gold Dots to start.

I've always liked the hydrashok's. They shoot really accurate out on my self defense glocks. I've tried the winchester rangers and did not care for them as much. Also one of our match directors ND'ed a 147 ranger into in knee and it did not expand (good for him), but lost all confidence for me.

he did it while at home cleaning his browning high power while in his easy chair. Did not happen at the range.

Well a knee is mainly bones. Need some flesh to help expand.

I used to carry them. Until I saw how much better performing hollowpoints have gotten in the last decade.

Got a .38 full of them

Used to keep a 10mm full of them, but I upgraded to Win. Silvertips. 10mm Hydra-Shoks are pretty anemic, Silvertips are anything but!

Keep da fo-tay loaded with Rem. Golden Sabres.

Better than FMJ, but if you're looking to stock up on a defense round, Hydrashok isn't the best choice.
