Say whatever you want about it but Ive been dancing for about a year now. I went up to St Louis for the Star Ball competition with my fiancee and wasnt planning to take pictures. Its not the first time Ive thought that and only brought my camera and the 24-105 and not the first time Ive kicked myself for doing so. It IS the last time Ill do it though. From now on, everything is going with me unless I just dont have room for it.

Light varied by about 5 stops across the floor. Some spots were super bright and some super dim. Decided Id give raw a shot and Ive got to say that Im finally a believer.

Feel free to comment. Never done anything like this so I went to sports mode and just tried to get faces and more peak/stationary action since I could only go 1/320.

I dont really like them too much.

Theyre underly saturated (for dancing pictures)
    Theyre too tight
They have too large a DOF

No. My camera only has P/Tv/Av/M and you enable/disable what you want. I disable P so I dont ever select it. I leave Tv for motorsports and honestly Im not really sure why I left Av.

On most DSLRs theres the little wheel with the green square, the little pictures, and then P/A/T/M. The green is full auto, the pictures are called scene modes, and the P/A/T are usually called "Creative" modes. M is of course fully manual.

:mamoru: Ok, at least were on the same lines now. :h5: But aren't P/Tv/AV/and M considered Creatives modes on most cameras? Whereas the Icons indicated full Auto Modes?

Well I never consider M as creative but yeah...I guess youre right. I dont have my manual anywhere around here to give you the technical answer but its not that important.

for some reason this is the first time i've heard of them called 'creative modes.' what makes any mode 'creative'?

I suppose its just the fact that you can do stuff with it and the camera isnt controlling everything like it would be in auto modes. Thats at least what Ive always gone by.

Like green square is full auto and you normally cant control anything. It picks aperture, shutter, iso, and flash on/off. Normally, if you go to P, it still controls aperture and shutter but you can control iso and flash. That makes you "creative" :hs:

so 'control' means 'creative', unless you have complete control then they just call it 'manual.'

meh, i guess i can accept that.
