Just grabbed an XSi from Best buy, with the EF-S 18-55m IS kit..

$532.88 before tax, did I get a decent deal?

Been reading up, and I've taken a few (horrible) shots already, I have two weeks to change my mind but I think I'll stick with it :mamoru:

Probably have enough for another lens, would like something that can shoot further than the kit lens I got though...

Guess I'm going to frequent these forums now :wavey:

would a 55-250 4-5.6 IS be alright? it's $370 at FS/BB and I can probably get a bit off of it.. I don't want to spend too much, I'm still very new at this

    :eek3:

i find it very, very odd though

i got it on EPP, price lookup said $600, which means my cost would be $660

I said whatever, and bought it

price rang up at cashier, $532, so i ran like a little school girl

    edit

stupid question, this thing doesn't take video, right? friend of mine kept saying it did :mamoru:

Doesn't take video. Currently only the Nikon D90 and the Canon 5dmkII do.

Look into the 70-200 f/4 L for a telephoto. Best bang for the buck out there.

Negative ghost rider. The 40d and 50d can be hacked to shoot video. Just records the live view.

yeah that's what i was looking at, 650 USD is quite expensive to us moonless hippies, our dollar is like .70 USD or something

what do you think of the 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS though? is it a good basic lens with decent zoom?

To be honest, I am a total elitist prick now because of OTAP. I've never had any experience with that lens, and I tend not to associate with people that would shoot with it.

For what you want to do, I'm sure it's fine. It's got an older version of Canon's IS, consumer build quality, and a lower price tag.

I tend to buy things as an investment that I could always sell later, and frankly, I minimize my loss with professional level gear.

i am definitely not buying professional gear anytime soon, as I'm just starting out. and i can always return this shit in a week or two and get my money back.

    just testing things out atm

if there's a good lens you can find on www.futureshop.ca or www.bestbuy.ca for not too much, feel free to toss them at me!

not worth getting a cheap lens, better to save up for something decent than waste $400 IMO
