So the chaplain walked by me the one day and asked me if i was going to sunday service. I told him no, and that i was buddhist. He was taken aback by this and replied... and i quote..." Well if you ever want to be saved, just feel free to stop by and talk to me any time"

Chaplains say the darndest things.

that's probably not something he was supposed to say to you. Chaplains are supposed to be supportive of your religious preference.

Can't prevent stupidity. Oh well...next time if you get in a conversation with that chaplain or any other chaplain like that...put them in a position to assist you or make them work for you.

"Will you be at service this sunday?"
"No chaplain, I'm still searching for a suitable Buddist church in the area"

    Passive Aggressive ftw.

    :o

I was wondering if religious tolerance is part of military life or not... Also, I was kind of asking myself if it is possible to be in the military and be a Buddhist

Was Ghandi a sheep, a sheepdog or a wolf? Answer that and you have the answer.

I wish I knew the answer...a sheep dog operates through the skilled application of violence - yet Ghandi defeated the application of violence through non-violence - What kind of sense does that make? Used to be that the guards would break up the worker's rebellions by wading into the crowd and slashing at the rioters on horseback with their swords. Ghandi taught the crowds to lie down flat on the ground ...the horses refused to step on the humans and shied away from the people on the ground...yet the people on the ground were to close to the earth to be reached by the men on the horses...how does a man that commits the loss of life of all of his followers through non-violence fit into Grossman's paradigm? That man got the living shit beat out of him time and time again...but he remained resolute to his teachings and preachings...I think he fits in there somewhere ...but I'm not sure where...I like to think he's a sheepdog in sheep's clothing...That's the best hybrid that I can think of...I need to read more Ghandi stuff.

Religion doesn't work. What if you're christian and op4 is christian? who lives? Is it the person that prayed the hardest?

we're not talking about who lives and who dies, or who is right and who is wrong. Simply the presence of religion in the US Military.

I think being a Buddhist in the military is impossible, but I think I'd rather be a Marine than a sheep ;)

You can practice any religion in the military without discrimination as long as you know your military duties come first.

I say sheepdog on the basis that non-violent civil disobedience can be (and is) used as a weapon.
