wherd, finally decided to stop being a sandy vag about it
when i started i felt very claustrophobic and felt like i was suffocating.
now im just use to it, just watch out for the sleeves, they always get you with the sleeves when you first start out, since you are not used to it.
joining the club, nice
how do you deal with someone gripping your sleeves?
you just learn to deal with it. and you grab theirs and control their arms too.
you spray them with Pam non-stick cooking spray before you roll.
Its pretty hard to not let them get a grip on your sleeves, almost all passes make at least one of your sleeves available to them so its tough for the most part. but some things to remember are:
If you open there guard you are in a dominant position and your probably gonna pass
If they take the initiative and control your sleeves and move to open guard they are probably gonna sweep you
Sometimes when someone is going for your sleeves and they dont have a good grip yet, YANK YOUR ENTIRE ARM OUT before they can grab it. This is especially important in the open guard.
going from no gi to gi i am guessing your gonna get raped when other people are playing open guard on you. just make sure you have a good posture and push your hips foward into them and control THEIR LEGS! for the love of god control their legs.
I thought I was going to pass out the first time I rolled with the gi. Can't breathe with all the extra fabric hanging down like curtains when you roll and shit lol. It was also a pain in the watching out for new stuff like gi chokes.
FUCKING DOT!!!! i remember feeling very trapped.
just protect your collar at first until you get used to rolling in it
The judo gi that I have has really thick collars that pinch my arteries when I wear it. Its uncomfortable and it doesn't really take much for them to assist in cutting the oxygen supply to my brain.
In other news, I have yet to try out the uber sexy camo gi in scrimmage....
gi ftw. The only way to train bjj
I'm so happy I'm finally getting a little used to the gi. It's still way hotter than I prefer, I'm a t-shirt and shorts guy in the winter so wearing a gi and sweating my ass off is torture but I'm learning to tolerate it better. It helps that the weather is cooling down significantly. Starting in August was rough.
I feel your pain.... triple weave....
only wore this one twice, because its sooo damn thick and heavy.
gripping is its own art
At a Camarillo seminar he went off on a tangent on grips and positioning for a few minutes, really in depth stuff I really never even considered. Basically said you always want top grip and gave some details on how to maintain and control.
what gi is that and where did you get it
I'm so in love with the gi right now. did a seminar with diego moraes that was essentially how to get this one sleeve choke (that I already was starting to use alot) from every position and with all kinds of grips.
even in judo, if you dont have the grips you dont have the throw
no name brand and my gf bought it for me, dunno where she got it, ill ask her tomorrow. She called my white one ratty and gross.
diego moraes was at your guys's school? was his brother there with him? The two of them are taking over our bjj school since our trainer moved to key west
how many times did you guys get caught in that fucking guillotine rolling with him?
