I joined the powerlifting club at my school and they started everyone on the west side program. I have done it now for about 2 weeks. It takes awhile to get used to but I am told it works. There are a few people that seem to really know what they are talking about and understand alot about working out and physiology. I really don't have a point to this post maybe add your thoughts or things I should try and do or focus on. This is what I know about it so far, dynamic and max effort days, switch I guess the main exercise every 3 weeks like bench for 3 weeks then do board presses for 3 weeks. The workout today was dynamic upper so we did bench 8x3 with 45-60 RBS, Floor press 3X6 2 min RMS, pull ups 3X12 2 min RMS. Military press 3X12 and then abs. Any thoughts?

  2. Sounds great, how strong are the guys you work with?

Well not sure I haven't really watched anyone max or anything, the one dude that seems to know alot I saw him squating like 500 and benching with bands and boards 365 I beleive. There is wide range of people in weight classes, like there seems to be like 4 people that have been doing it for awhile and are pretty strong, then I would say I am the next class of people like I have been lifting for good number of year and have decent size but new to powerlifting and then there are some smaller people.

Just working out for about 5 years, I have done squat, deadlift all that stuff before just never in competition, I tend to think I know a decent amount of stuff about working out and the body, but I am always looking to learn more.

unless you bench more than 400 raw and squat 700 you dont really need bands
    thats my advice

how come, doesn't it just increase the resistance as you go thro the range of motion, wouldn't this help anyone in working out?

Yeah I agree somewhat but they're good to add some variation to your training and can help you break through weak points, even if your numbers aren't so high.

  12. The effectiveness of bands do not correlate with any numbers.

you still should not be using them as a beginner

I really doubt most of us are at the level where we need bands or chains to break through weak points. You should be able to do that with assistance exercises, Correcting your form and eating more.

experience does. he will gain plenty of strength without bands for a couple years. westside didnt use them for 10-15 years and they were still turning out world class powerlifters. point is start using them once your progress begins to slow down.

yeah dude its not like by calling you a beginner we're calling you weak or anything. youre just new to the program and training methods. just from doing the specialized work your lifts are going to shoot up a bunch. you want to use the most minimal amount of stuff to get the maximum results and for the time being this will be able to be done by leaps and bounds with straight weight.
