I know pretty much for a fact now, that the xd-40 sub compact is coming out in Jan 04. Its been spotted at Gun/trade shows in the states. But I wanted a gun now so, here you go.

My second XD! :big grin: sub-compact 9mm

Correct me if I am wrong but I swear I read about a milling problem with the slide on the sub compact 9mm?

9mm with the right ammo is great stuff for concealed carry.
I am going to have to rent an XD.

    Yeah thats the ambi-mag release

I paid 390 for it at a local range/shop, thats the best price i could find. It was pretty much the deciding factor in buying it right then and there.

here are some pics in hand. Take in mind that im 5'6 and have smaller hands :hs:

Do you know anything about guns?
The one button is a mag release, the other is a slide stop lever, the other lever is the takedown latch.

Yeah what glocksrock said. the circular button below the trigger is the mag release, its ambi-dex so the button is on both sides. the one up top to the front is the takedown latch, to strip the gun. the other one is for the slide stop.

i'm sorry that you're horribly uninformed, but the best 9mm (127 gr. +P+ Ranger SXT, 124 gr. +P Gold Dot, and a few others) display 90-95% of the terminal ballistic performance of the best .40 and .45

okay, update. according to ammolab.com, which is my new favorite site, and their multitudinous tests on ammunition of all types, the best 9mm (Ranger SXT 127 gr. +P+) performs equally with the best .45

the Ranger SXT penetrated 14.6 inches, and expanded to .69 inches. the best .45 (CCI 200 gr. Lawman JHP) expanded to .69 inches also, but showed only 14" of penetration. about equal if you ask me. with both, they were shot through 4 layers of denim to simulate clothing, and into calibrated ballistic gelatin. there were some .45 rounds that expanded to .70 or .74, but they all exhibited something undesirable, like horrible underpenetration, or jacket separation. in the case of one particular hydrashok load, one round lost the jacket and failed to expand, while another penetrated 16" inches, and expanded to .70". i threw that out as a candidate, because that kind of inconsistency doesn't make for a good defense round. all in all, throughout many of their handgun ammo tests, there are a large number of jacket separations with hydrashok.

anyways, i'd say that a 9mm round that can do the same expansion and same penetration of the best .45 round is pretty damn good. i'm surprised that of the speer gold dots that they tested in 9mm, none of them were the 124 gr. +P. had they tested those, i'd bet they'd come up near the SXT. and even if you choose a 9mm round that's not quite 100% of the .45 performance, you still have the massive difference in recoil and magazine capacity. and cost.

i think it is equal to the best in terminal ballistics, and it IS the best when it comes to a defense pistol round and capacity in the mag.

you can put beretta 9mm hi-caps in XD9's right???

  22. itchiban

    itchiban Guest

yes, the 4" and 5" xd-9s will hold 17rd beretta mags. Although the factory xd-40 (.40sw) mags will hold 15 9mm rounds. and it is fully flush.

Awesome. I put an XD in 9mm (4" Service Model) on my xmas list, hopefully I will get it, and those "alternative" hi-caps will get me by until the ban expires.
