    The build begins...

I had him order me two :o

Going to put one in storage the other is going to be built.

    I'm thinking
    • Stag Arms Lower Parts Kit
    • Magpul CTR Mil-spec Stock
    • Still undecided on the upper receiver - I know I want a chrome lined barrel I'm still new to this also :o
    • Larue Tactical makes a sweet looking handguard but it's $$$ - anything comparable and cheaper?
    • What else am I missing?

Troy MRF if you're looking for a good quality, light, yet relatively inexpensive quad rail.

What are you going to do with it? I'd rather have optics before some uber expensive rail.

CMMG lower, Stag LPK, CMMG upper with lightweight barrel, Phantom 5C1 flash suppressor. Now, it's got an EOTech and a sling. That's it, no fancy shit, just simple and light.

I don't see what makes the CTR worthy of a $100 upgrade from the regular M4 buttstock. It looks cooler, but I dunno if it's worth that price. And I'd skip on the quad rail unless you really need it. Probably like 90% of people I see with them just have a VFG and maybe a flashlight on one of the side rails, and everything else is covered with ladders or hand guards anyway. Just put a picatinny rail on the bottom to mount your VFG and flashlight and call it a day.

regarding m4 stocks. They just don't feel solid to me. I can get them to flex when I have to shoot from off positions like 90 degree side prone. If you get a adjustable stock you should get a solid one. I've tired them and really don't care for any of them. I had a lmt sopmod for a while and sold it.

There is really nothing wrong with the standard fixed a1 or a2 stocks. Rock solid and you can get your finst under them to monopod in prone shooting position. Only drawback is they don't look ar15.com sack riding tacticool.

I have settled on the fixed vltor clubfoot a1 stock w/ the rubber but pad to get it to A2 lenght. Really it was the stock closest to a A2. I'm also picky about stocks because I run two optics and the stock has to be able to rotate into the 2nd optic without lifting my head out of position. Those fat cheek flairs on the lmt don't work for me.

regarding handguards I personally don't like the railed handguards because they are heavy, they only allow you to attach stuff at 12, 3, 6, and 9 o'clock. I need 1:30 and 10:30 for my weapon light (which I can hit with my thumb without shifting my grip, and I have my short range dot sight at 1:30 (correct postition for rotating into secondary optic. Lastly most people get railed forends but they don't own anything to attach to them. They just get them to look cool. Then they cover up most of the rails with covers so it doesn't cut up their hands.

I like the jp/vltor handguard. More options on where to put your rails and you can put small pieces of rails only where you need them. The handguard also doesn't get hot when your rolling the trigger 3 gun style.

While my rifle is not as pretty as those larue's it is all function. It also holds a no bullshit 3/4 moa which is saying something as it's built as a race gun. Not a bench rest gun.

  13. How much is a regular M4 buttstock and buffer assembly? I only paid ~150 for my CTR and buffer assembly, and it feels way more solid than the M4 setup.

Does that stag kit come with a chrome-lined barrel? M4 feed ramps?

FWIW the Del-Ton kit is $555 with chrome-lined barrel and M4 feed ramps.
