Should I? When it was first released I heard nothing but bad things about it, like how it would cause programs to stop working, etc., so I never downloaded it.

But I'm thinking I should now. I heard MS will stop supporting SP1 stuff in October, and it's the end of November now.

Here's why I'm concerned. I have a lot of software, and if any of it stopped working, I would be pissed off. My computer is set up exactly perfectly right now and I don't like messing with important stuff.

Am I safe to download it? Should I? Why would I want to vs. keeping SP1 which is working just fine?

Never caused me or anyone I know any problems.

If you are concerned about it maybe just make an image of your drive before you install it. :dunno:

I've had it since day one without any problems. You always have the option of reverting back to SP 1 as well.

probably safe to upgrade now. i'm pretty particular about my development machines, and haven't had any problems with it since early this year.

i've always thought the sp2 claims were bogus, the only problem i ever had with it was the firewall.

    100% you should!

I know I hated SP2... but it fixes a few issues with raw socket connections

ANY SP1 even with all security updates is subseptible to what is called a blaster attack (remember the virus?) well you can use that attack to get on any SP1 XP machine, also with some knowledge of payloads you can gain remote command line access to it...

I do Pen Tests for a living.. trust me on this.

Oh my god. SP2 has been out how long now? Two years? Everybody has it by now, even the people who didn't like the tighter security at first. Just install it already.

Automatic Updates are your friend. Every computer takes care of its own needs.
