Cheap wireless infrared / radio if at all possible... The B1600 does have a "flash slave" (or whatever it's called) that is surprisingly sensitive to flashes indoors, but I'm not so sure how well it would work outdoors (especially if the back end of the unit isn't exposed to the flash)... so this isn't really an option for me.

When I plugged the sync cord into my 30D connected to the B1600 I could not get my 580EX to fire at all regardless of the settings I tried but the B1600 did fire.

I know a few of you frequent Strobist, but since I'm not registered there I figured I'd try here first, and DPreview lighting technique next.

Also, as far as stands and accessories go I want a stand to hold my flash, as well as a smaller stand to hold either my 580EX or a reflector. Also looking for a cheap, reasonably sized umbrella to start with, and I'll consider a soft-box or octo-box after I practice some.

My local camera store is selling a 5in1 reflector kit (I think 32") along with a stand and an arm to hold the reflector for $99. The stands are cheap, but the arms to hold the reflectors are not so $99 doesn't sound like a horrible deal.

Tell me what you think about this stand and umbrella

With a lead acid battery functioning as a weight for that stand, do you think it can keep that umbrella from blowing away in a 5 MPh wind?

Why don't you try it before assuming it won't work? :dunno:

Well it might work some of the time, but from everything I've heard / collected from the internet over the years it sounds like it's not reliable at all. I'd hate to constrain my lighting options by the facings / orientation of my lights.

pocket wizards, or you could get some of the cactus receivers/transmitter from gadget infinity.

and you'll need one of these to go with the stand and umbrella

Yeah, I knew I'd need one of those... I'll be sure to put electrical tape over the metal hot-shoe. :)

So if I buy a trigger and two recievers I should be good to go? 580 plugged into the hotshoe adapter, and B1600 connected with a synch cord?
