Totally didn't plan on buying one this soon, but I couldn't pass it up. I had been teetering back and forth trying to decide on WASR-10 vs WASR-2. I went to Dunham's today and the WASR-10s were $350 with one left, and the WASR-2 was $219 and there were 3-4. I checked out the 10 and the sights were canted literally about 10 degrees to the right. I checked out all of their 2's and I found one with perfectly straight sights. Figures the one rifle without canted sights has a dragonuv stock on it, but whatever. I'm going to refinish the furniture in the next couple days and completely clean out the receiver. I'm considering getting a fixed stock + pistol grip. Any good places to buy 'em?

And does anyone know if these magazines are any good? Hit ctrl+f and search for "Used Polish AK-74 5.45x39 30rnd"
    http://www.copesdist.com/ak47.htm

I don't like the looks of the bakelite mags. :hs:

Anyway, how did I do? I know it's not the best out there, but this is my first gun other than .22lr. I'll report back once I know how it shoots. :coold:

Oh yeah, single stack mags right now. I know WASR-10's can easily be modded with a dremel to fit double stacks, but can WASR-2's be done the same?

Paid $10 for a box of 30 rounds :wtc: but I'm ordering a box of surplus as soon as I get home from work tonight. :h5:

Ok cool. :coold: I wanna go out and shoot it first before I take my dremel to it.

edit: Oh yeah, that little 5-rounder or whatever is a POS, the lips are bent outward so it can't hold any bullets in.

When you do the conversion you'll have to replace some parts with USA made parts to get the parts count right. I would do a new stock set and trigger group, G2 or RSA depending what you want to spend.

That's a pretty good price. Just buy whatever 74 mags are cheapest. If you don't like the color spray paint them black or something.

I think this is probaly the best deal for 74 mags right now. 4-pack of Russian plums for $55 plus shipping.

Take your time when you open up your magwell. You can get it started with a dremel but finish it with a file. It's a lot easier to remove metal than add it ;)

    Also you need new furniture.

I remember hearing something about this? You need a certain # of american parts or something? I need an EDU for converting. :o

I thought WASRs were already in compliance with 922r? :dunno:

The ones already converted are, the single stack ones still have all romy internals, they don't take high cap's so they dont need to meet 922r compliance.

So how illegal is it to have an AK that's not in compliance? What are the odds of ever getting caught? :o I plan on getting the tapco trigger but it won't be for a while.

Probably slim I've never heard of anyone having their rifle inspected for 922 compliance but you never know could happen. Better to spend $60 on the parts then to have a felony on your record.

I totally butchered the job, I've never used a dremel tool before :o. Oh well, it works.

Took it to the range today, too and it's pretty fun to shoot. A lot more kick than I'm used to with my 10/22. I got my front sight zeroed in with up/down but I need a front sight tool to get it to go left and right. Right now it's shooting about 2 feet to the right at 25 yards.

I dunno. I almost fucked it up beyond repair because I was dremeling out part of a post that I thought was in the way (and was part of a pic guide I was following) but it was the wrong post. It was actually the magazine catch on the forward side of the mag well. :o Good thing I stopped before I got too far with it. But the fit is nice and solid. I might take a bit more off of the mag supports though because the fit is pretty snug.

Oh yeah, my little safety mod is pretty cool. It sort of acts like a forward assist. :coold:

If they fit snug just leave it. It will loosen up with time as you insert mags.

Also, is there a specific reason my carrier handle is bent upwards like that, or is it literally just bent? It almost looks like its supposed to be that way but I'm not sure.

Oh yeah, I picked up my 10/22 today and it feels like a toy now. :o

edit: I just noticed my front sight is canted a tiny bit to the left, which probably explains why my bullets were going so far right today. It's small enough that I think just adjusting the windage on the front sight should be able to take care of it. It's kind of annoying now that I know it's there, though.
