im trying to put together a sort of movie / presentation for a class.

now i have a movie on my hd. its in mp4. ripped with handbrake. but when i try to open it in FC it says it does not support the format or something?

also if i can get it to work can i chop it up and take certain segments that i want and put them in between slides and such :o

    im new to all this

no hate, just saying for what you need FCP seems overkill. learn it when you're not on a deadline :dunno:

    get quicktime pro
    open up that .mp4
    File > Export
    export "export to quicktime movie"
    click "options"
in the video section click "settings"
in the compresstion type, choose "DV/DVCPRO- NTSC"
put the quality at the "best"
    press okay
    press okay
    save

sit there for how ever long it takes, then import that file into FCP

if you installed FCP, it should install QT Pro with it...
at least in the legit version it does...

  10. rename the .mp4 to .mpg or .MPEG.

did you actually PURCHASE final cut pro or just download it? i'm willing to offer a helping hand to actual supporting apple customers.

  13. i get paid for my editing work and such, so i actually have to purchase these types of programs for work or i go to jail :o

but i gave you some advice. just rename it

but if you're too cheap to buy fcp and thought fcp would edit your mpeg 4 file, then just stick with imovie and you will be fine. or you can try windows movie maker on PC.

You really should bite the bullet and purchase Quicktime Pro, its packed with features and its 1/30th the cost of FCP at 30 bucks.

Did you find it in the FCP install? Or just purchased it?
