So my 80gb hard drive just crashed

Had about 6000mp3's -- all labeled perfectly and organized
    roughly 15gb's of porn
5gb or so of car videos
5gb's of program set up files (really expensive ones)
5gb's of web site stuff (pics, code, etc)

The first thing I was going to do was make a image of it when i got my new machine up and running. Hard drive doesn't even spool up :( Tried it without the ide cable and just power cable and still nothing :(

I'm extremely pissed right now. I had lots of my own music on there :(

btw: it was a maxtor diamondMax plus 9 80gb ata/133 hard drive

Sorry to hear that man. I don't know what I would do if I lost my media drive.

might be because it was a maxtor? hehe. I really don't know. Possibly the PSU. Doesn't seem like it's getting power no matter what computer i plug it into.

I didn't mean to scare anybody. I was just really angry so i needed to vent. I'm sure maxtor drives are fine...but you won't see me ever buying one again. Shoulda stuck to WD like i always have. Never had one of them fail on me.

hehe. They were only the set up files :p

I can always get um again so i don't mind. It was the music loss that killed me. Took me along time to organize 6000+ mp3's

Man, that sucks... I'm still in awe at how many people have hard drives die on them, I've never had any trouble with any of mine (although I have had to replace a couple at work).

ive never had a maxtor die.

but then ive brough back "dead" 8gb WD drives (just shake it, and put a magnet to it trying to realign the heads hoping the platters arnt damaged.)

yeah its a PITA for me to do my 3000 mp3s...

i'm not sure what to say. I've had my WD 40gb for about 3 years now. I put it through hell and she never complains. This is my second drive (first was an ibm) to die on me. Not sure why...just how it goes i guess.

i'm contemplating opening it up and seeing if there is anything noticable. I mean, all it's doing is not getting any power...how bad could that be :p I might even get to play with my mini sodering(spelling) gun :wiggle:

:dunno: I do live in a pretty favorable environment for computer stuff, not too hot and not too humid.

If it's that important to you, ship it off to a data recovery center.

I hear you. One of my 120's filled up and I pretty much decided if that drive died, I'd cry. So I bought (4) WD 120gb's and a 3ware RAID controller, running raid-5. I'd hate to see all that time and effort downloading shit lost. :hs:

True dat, I still haven't ripped back all my MP3's from last time I reinstalled... Plus I have new CD's since then that I haven't ripped yet. Maybe once I get the new computer and can rip/encode a little faster (this machine is so slooooooooow).

I lost an 80 GB, and had only the week before burned all my MP3's (about 35 GB) to CD's...

And re-loading 60+ CD-R's of MP3's is much better than re-ripping however many albums that is.
