So I just got this Windows CE based palm top.

Too big to be a PDA, but too stripped down to compete with a Laptop. Basically, I've been working on Word documents, and transferring them back and forth with Active Snync. It's technically a Windows CE 2.11 system. I haven't really dove into things, but I wonder about the possibilities of installing the compact .NET framework and creating some basic mobile apps. Doesn't seem to take it though. Perhaps the OS is a bit too old. I wonder how upgradeable this thing is.

We're getting a Tablet PC soon at work, so I'll let you know how easy it is to write mobile apps. :big grin:

I really never sat down with a CE system. :dunno:

I think you can upgrade to the latest version of CE if you can find it. Should be easy to load up the CE Dev Kit from MSDN and start writing apps.

TabletPC != CE so you're not really writing "mobile" apps, but apps that happen to be going mobile. Think of the TabletPC OS as a flavoring of XP/Win200x with a bunch of TabletPC specific features.

    Upgrading CE gadgets isn't painful...

:werd: I have two CE devices (one being a PocketPC PDA) and the other being a HP Jornada palm top. Don't use the Jornada too much anymore, but I guess it has it's perks. Not enough for me anymore..

If anyone is interested in purchasing the Jornada, I have the unit and the power supply available. I have lost the ActiveSnyc serial cable, but you can get them on eBay pretty cheap... PM me if you want to buy this thing.

If I don't have the device on, it knows it.

If the device is on, this is the rejection message I get. :(

Looks like you may need to upgrade the CE OS?

    I did some research.... :(

My device is unable to accept .NET - at all! One good point is the following: if you have a PocketPC device connected, and run .NET Mobile app, it will automatically install the compact framework on the device if it isn't present. Smart concept.

    Oh well... moving along...
