I've never had a good support system so I've usually always done handheld SLR everything.

    Just got in the:

Gitzo G1227 mk2 carbon fiber tripod
RRS BH-40 with lever clamp and arca-swiss lever plate
RRS L bracket for 20D and grip
    RRS shoe for 70-200 2.8L
Gitzo G1566 mk2 aluminum monopod (had it before with no head)
Bogen 3232 swivel head for monopod
RRS arca-swiss lever plate for monopod

It's sooo much better than my topply manfrotto mini tripod with a head that couldn't hold my lenses steady at all.

Now I'm thinking I should return the 1227 for the 1228 gitzo to compromise a tad between travel and non-travel tripods and junk the manfrotto mini. Don't want to use that thing ever again. :o

I'll post pics here later, charging the batteries for my crummy point and shoot. :mamoru:

btw the tripod AND the ball head weigh a total of 4.3 lbs, and it's really sturdy.

ticks me off that you buy an expensive set of legs and get no bag/carrying case for it though.

Damn that's nice. I haven't gotten around to a tripod yet and I have been thinking lately that I really want to. I will probably go this route right off the bat rather than upgrading 3 times like everyone always ends up doing.

Thats what I pretty much decided to do. Well I have a mini tripod that was like $100 with head.

This setup is really amazing. Real busy at work so I can't play until the weekend :hsd:

stole the legs for $280, got head for $340 or so plus the bracket/plates for another buck twenty five.

i think it'll be like 850$ or so, usually 1000$ retail.

shot this the other night using it, no creep at all  very easy to use.

but it was a bit cloudy (wispy) over the moon and it started raining on me a few minutes after this shot so I went back inside.
