I always thought it was concealed carry only, but apparently not. Kinda  Info at opencarry.org if anybody wants to look up their state, but most of you already know.

i know this might seem like a dumb question but:

open carry = do not have to have it hidden under your shirt or concealed in anyway?

concealed carry = weapon has to be hidden?

    yea.

but the republic of new jersey doesn't follow that. it doesn't matter if it's open or concealed, you need a permit.

exactly right. so basically you can tuck in your shirt and don't have to worry about having it over the gun. i found this out from my friend i hadn't talked to in a while. he got a new glock and carries it everywhere. according to him though, he gets a lot of funny looks when he goes in the bank :mamoru:

even in a state w/open carry laws, if you practice it you're still gonna catch hell from the leo's about it.

Happened in northern VA. In VA, in a bar, you CANNOT carry concealed, but open carry is allowed.

Cops got called, cops got to find out that they were wrong, and the citizens were right.

If you can open carry in your state without a permit, then the gun HAS to be visible. If you were to conceal it, then you would need a permit. Some states you cannot open carry and you need a permit to conceal carry. You can then get in trouble if your gun is showing.

In VA, if they serve alcohol, it is considered a bar for this purpose.

They were actually in a restaurant, but since it had a bar, no concealed carry.

Sorry...should have been more clear on that.

:werd: Indiana is a licensed open and concealed carry state. you can carry concealed or you can carry open, but you have to have a CCW to carry either way.

TN's law basically doesn't bar open carry on the whim that when carrying concealed, and your weapon was to become accidentally exposed, you couldn't get into trouble for it.. or something like that.

most states that allow open carry, local city laws etc can trump them, so each city you pass through, you have to know the local laws. PITA

You may catch hell but it makes it all the more sweet smiling at a cop who doesn't know the laws.

    Why would you carry openly?

The power in concealed carry is not in the carry, but in the concealed.

People here carry openly because they work ranches and farms and because it's legal to do so and our police don't even look twice.

If you clothing and your pistol do not intertwine very well, then you need to figure out a new wardrobe. How the fuck can it be a "hassle" to cover up a pistol? Are you going to the fucking beach and swimming in the ocean?

b/c i don't dress like a piece of shit all the time and sometimes wear polos and button up shirts. so, how about like any time i want to wear a shirt tucked in?

that would be considered concealed here because it's tucked inside the pants. Even though the handle is visible, the rest of the gun isn't.

Tucking in is the whole reason 'tuckable IWB' holsters are made. Look at FISTs tuckable, cantable IWB. I'm going to pick up one of those first, and then maybe a shoulder rig for even dressier occasions.
