Anyone see this happen with a cast part before?

yeah the aluminum is too shitty to anno or plate. Best you could do is some clean dura coat or powder coat.
You have a good excuse to get one of thos real stainless steel MOA or VQ receivers now.
I'm considering milling a new one myself, but the MOA receivers aren't absurdly priced either
I really want to mill out my own. Gotta convince the shop guy at my college it's worth his time and that it's not a weapons part or something.
use that, duracoat, profit
Oops. That sucks. NoDak has some pretty cool looking 10/22 receivers for reasonably priced.
