It's to be a photographer at a local ski resort, I usually get a season pass every year but with me getting a morning job at the resort I will get a free season pass. Also they pay 20% commission from sold prints.

The resort is about 35 miles away from my house each way.

As far as the requirements they shoot portraits and action shots.

Good Deal? I was thinking if would make my photography resume a little stronger if anything.

If it wasn't serious I wouldn't be posting in here, I would post it in the main forum.

    Thank you for your input.

that's a 70 mile commute every day for nothing but a pass and commision on possible sales...pretty garbage.

Tell them you'll take pictures when you're there skiing.

20% on those action shots that people can buy afterwards? No one really buys those, you'd get like 20% of $20 for each picture... you'd have to sell like 30 pictures a day for that to be worth it...

i'd take it if you got a salary as well.

but in all honesty its your time, do what you want with it, if you can afford it knock yourself out.

If there was a set pay, it'd be worth it. Free season pass is good and all, but what guarantee do they have that your pictures will sell?

Are you going to be the only photog selling pics?

What was their sales of pics last year? I'm not talking about "oh, we sold a ton...", I'm talking numbers on a paper!

Lots of questions to ask, but at the end it all matters what's important to you. If you do get this and it brings more money in the future, then it might be worth it. If you just want to do it for fun and never do it again, again, your call.

This would be just a morning job, since I'm usually up at the slopes 5 days out of 7.

Pay wise they showed me some historical stats, and it looks like during the slow season they pull in about 300-400 Dollars per photographer a day, then during the busy season around anywhere up to 2500K A day.

There is 4 photogs on the mountain, each has it's own aread that they shoot.

If youre gonna be there anyway, you might as well get some money out of it. Would you HAVE to be there everyday or is it when you're available? I'd say if you were gonna pay for the pass anyway and gonna be there, go for it.

sounds like they're trying to take advantage of you, but whatever.

It's hard for me to believe they sell more than 3 of those pictures each day... especially with everyone carring their own P&S around on the slopes anyway

Also, do you think youre at the level where people will be purchasing a lot? I say give it a shot...if it sucks, would you be able to quit and still keep the pass or would they make you pay for it then?

Does not sound like they value you as a photographer.

I'll probably give it a shot for about a month, see if it's worth my time or what not.

I would negotiate a base pay rate and take a 15% commission. That way you are guaranteed money for your work.

I was talking to the guy today, I guess what we are allowed to do is basically sell our services per hour, afterhours. So basically I'll be shooting for the resort until about 12, then I can have people pay for my services and I keep all the profit, one of the girls was saying that she usually charges about 65 Dollars per hour + prints.

    So we'll see
