Written by Mike Davidson, probably old for those enthusiasts and hardcore photographers.

I have to disagree with that, although maybe I am wrong. Reason in case. I carry my Rebel XT everywhere. Who knows, maybe a good opportunity will arise and I'll be ready for it.

I don't know what you mean by that. Is your comment about compact p&c or specifically about that camera. I also own a Nikon S6 which is great, and I've taken some good pics with it but I feel like I am cheating especially when I use Macro mode.

I believe half of the fun with DSLRs are learning how and when to use those settings and when you do it right, you can achieve pictures of higher quality than the typical P&C can achieve.

I dont mind carrying my dslr with me everywhere. I just make sure I have it with me at all times or have someone responsible to hold onto it if I need to step away for second.

I guess it depends on how dedicated you are. If you want a p&s get a p&s dont let this faggot tell you that you shouldnt take your dslr with you.

Carrying around my 30d w/ grip and 24-70 f/2.8 L does get tiresome. I keep it for landscapes and client work now. For everything else, I use a P&S.

If you're a competent photographer, a P&S is really all you need, so why carry the extra weight except to look like you really mean business?

I don't walk around expecting to shoot models or a product spot; I walk around expecting to see normal, everyday life and for that a P&S will do just fine.

Problem is that P&S don't have nearly the features of a DSLR.

Btw, is there a P&S that comes with RAW mode?
