first set was 115x10, while i could do them easily with proper form by the last rep my heart rate was 175bpm, which is pretty damn high. all three sets had a heart rate of 175 which i think is a little high.

Since i'm a fat ass, is this the reason why my heart rate gets that high? The rest of my workout i'd hit 170bpm when i've not hit it before doing the same routine, just switching to DL instead of hyperextentions and seated leg curl.

    1) how fat are we talking? My heart rate always goes up when I deadlift or squat heavy, probably normal if you ask dr. stork
    2) just stick with around 5 reps on deadlifts and up the weight
    3) please continue to deadlift

Your heart rate goes up because DLs are that bad ass. That's all.

thats why squats and DL's are so badass, because its kicking the shit out of like half your body all at once, hence the shortness of breath.

As others said, that's just your body taking an ass kicking. Nothing to really worry about.

Deads and Squats are pretty demanding on your body, high heart rate is pretty normal. 5x5 is probably the most popular rep/set for DLs. Be sure to adjust the weight accordingly as well. I started out doing DLs at like 95lbs and thought I was getting worked. 4 weeks later I could easily hit 220+lbs for my last set. You can probably lift a lot more than you think.

When I first started deadlifting I noticed my heart rate was really high too...I think it's because you're probably not used to the amount of effort you have to put into an exercise in such a short amount of time.
