Since I've been having some odd issues with my current mobo (dead fan, some usb devices causing reboot) I decided to upgrade a few components.

    Mobo $99.99
    cpu+ram $293.99
    Total $393.98

    Re-using:
    WD 320GB HD
    Seagate 500GB HD
    Enermax 535w PSU
    ATI Radeon x800 Pro
    Old busted Antec case

    Thoughts on the above parts?

Any recommendations for a fan to go with the above cpu?

    Thanks

Actually there are also quite a few fans that support multiple sockets (including AM2).

I've been buying AMDs for the last 6 years :h5:

I think you're paying more for performance that is roughly equivalent to an Intel E6750.

    Brand loyalty sucks.
Intel is on top right now and they will be for a while.

Either you are just an AMD fanboi or an ignorant poor fuck if you don't go with intel.

also there is a heatsink and fan with that intel you posted and none with the amd you posted. for the money the intel is the better bang for the buck. :wtc:

Wow, that was a constructive post. Why get so upset over what other people buy?

Show me an Intel with better performance at this price (~$190) and I'll take a look at it. I prefer AMD over Intel but if the price/performance is considerably better then I would be perfectly willing to switch.

Why do you say Intel will be on top for awhile? It seems to swing back and forth between them pretty regularly.

I really don't care about who has the absolute fastest processors, as I don't do anything that needs that much power. I'm more concerned about price/performance. And really, anything is going to be an upgrade from my 2yo 3500+ on a dieing mobo.

    Oops, missed that :o

Still not a huge difference though. A fan/heatsink comparable to the stock intel would be around, what, $20?

Anyone know how these 2 compare in heat production? My current build runs ~35C with the side on in a dorm with no AC.

    Who's upset? :ugh:

First of all,.. the price value equation is fucked up. AMD is aggressively selling their chips at tray prices to compete with Intel. That's good and bad at the same time. Good, because consumers are buying it at a great low price. Bad, because AMD has billions of debt for purchasing ATI. The company won't survive if they keep doing this. And Intel is fucking them up more for cutting their own prices.

Intel will be on top for a while,... maybe for a long time.
AMD keeps delaying Barcelona. Because it sucks. Phenom ain't that great either. And these are supposedly "Conroe" killers. :hsugh:
While AMD work on these problems,... Intel is preparing to release the much better Penryn chips in early 2008.

As for those two chips,... under load,... that Athlon chip consumes 146W and temps are around 55+ C,... versus the Intel which consumes 118W and 45+ C temps.

    It's not hate. Just facts.
If AMD was on top,... I'd sackride them.
But that's not the case right now.

    So I'd say it again,...

    Brand loyalty sucks.
