I've shot rifles a lot in my life and some shotguns, but lately the idea of shooting a handgun has enticed me so I signed up for a Basic Shooting class at the range by my house and tonight I went. I've been researching the Glock 19s and thought that's what I should practice on, unfortunately theirs was not available tonight so I tried the Glock 17. Anyways, about 75 rounds in or so it didn't fire, called the instructor over he unchambered the round, chambered the next round and said have fun... but it didn't work again. The trigger wasn't out like it was supposed to be, it was like it was still depressed from the prior shot. So I called him back over and he took a look at it and said it broke... he says that since it was a range gun it doesn't surprise him, but wtf happened here?

Anyways, I switched to an XD9, which was pretty nice as well. Here's my shooting, not very tight at all, but it was my first handgun firing.

    So a few things:

-Not sure if the handgun has bit me enough to buy one, we'll see how it goes in the next few days
-It was quite embarrassing that I couldn't load the 10 round mag easily, BIG shot to the ego :o
-What could the problem have been with the Glock? I didn't do anything wrong I don't think.

I'm willing to bet it had nothing to do with you and everything to do with thousands of rounds being shot through it since it's a range gun.

And you shouldn't be worried about grouping if it's your first time shooting. You should be focusing on your sight alignment and trigger squeeze first.

Only Springfield requires that you send them the gun, not the manufacturer sending you the part, a la Glock... amirite?

Can't believe you left that out.

It takes time. There are all sorts of subtleties that you have to observe then correct almost at the muscle-memory level since the shot and accuracy-effecting recoil all occur within milliseconds.

I have a G17. After a few weeks, I got to the point where I could keep most of the rounds in the 8 and 9 rings at increasing distances. Then I got a revolver and was all over the map again. Same thing happened when I got a G21, only worse.

    yea, a $2 fix.

I wish they'd come out with a NY-style spring that was light and more like a semi-auto than a revolver.

You can manually reset the Glock trigger. The XD is dead if the trigger spring goes.

BTW, as far as a few days goes for " -Not sure if the handgun has bit me enough to buy one, we'll see how it goes in the next few days"

BS, I want to buy my glock now, but have 3 more paychecks before I can (without going in debt)

Trigger spring broke, MANUALLY RESET THE TRIGGER AND KEEP FIGHTING SON!

O, if you had been shooting an XD you would have been out of the fight, you can't manually reset those triggers.

It's common for trigger springs to break on high mileage range guns.

    Also, 10 round mags?? WTF!

nice thing about the glock is that it can probably be fixed by a layman with a $5 part in about 15 minutes.

I've been anti-glock my whole life until recently.

But the Glock isn't out of the fight even with the busted trigger spring while some other makes would be.

you acvt like it for one... for two if it's that easy than it's od reset when he pulled the trigger to find out it didn't work.....

and 2nd in typical form again he comes out the run name calling and mudslinging (like HE started) because he was wrong.

Look more lib style name calling!!!

and he had to ask what the deal was on here.. he fired nothing happened..if you just pull it back and it works than it would of reset but it didn't... It might be an easy fix, but so is a mag catch and guess what it's not $2 it's FREE from S&W... So point? Glocks break and so does every other gun so quit with the Glock > everything anybody else recommends BS.
