[now that I have your attention :o]

There was a lady that was obviously new to shooting 2 lanes down from me at an outdoor range I shoot at. We were at 50 yards and I was shooting my scoped 10/22. The way the lanes are set up is there's a bench for each shooter and they're all covered by some sort of shelter. The shelter extends about 5 yards downrange and is supported by a bunch of wooden beams that you shoot between. The area is obviously off limits and it's full of empty casings and ammo boxes people drop.

The RO says to shoot off what you got and then there will be a cease fire. I had a freshly loaded mag so I just kept shooting and I thought I heard something in front of me. I look down and the crazy bitch was crawling RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME WHILE I WAS SHOOTING. She was chasing her targets that the wind blew. If I hadn't seen her and she stood up she would have gotten it in the head. The RO had a field day with her and her idiot boyfriend. He was off smoking and didn't give her any instruction other than showing her how to hold his hi-point 9mm carbine. :hsugh: After the RO called cease fire I pulled my targets and left.

My question is, if someone is obviously at fault and disobeying clearly defined safety rules and gets shot, is the shooter liable at all?

I'd say it heavily depends on your state. You'd be fucked in CA, OR, IL, NY, or any other liberal craphole. At least, in a civil court.

It probably would not be a criminal offense, but there's a good chance you would be sued.

Just make sure after you shoot her, find and shoot whoever she was there with, and then her whole family. Nobody left to sue you then :o

Obviously no criminal charges would apply but yes you could count on a huge civil suit attempting to assign even a percentage of blame.

Civil suit would probably ensue. Either against shooter, or suit against the range/rangeowner operator.

WTF are you even talking about?! That .22 would tumble around in her body, DESTROYING vital organs and then exit from her vagina. They'd never even FIND the bullet!!

    .22's are magical, motherfucker. Education.

My question is why wasnt the RO paying enough attention to call a cease fire before she got close to you. She obviously did not just appear in front of you and was probably in front of the firing line for at least some time before making her way in front of you. Someone, anyone at the range in another lane or the RO should have seen this and immediately called for a cease fire.

It was just me and her at the 50 yard lanes, her boyfriend was off smoking, and the two RO's were down at the 25 yard lanes checking the breeches for people who were already done shooting.

I remember that event well. About as soon as I caught the motion in my peripheral vision, the RO got real excited and repeatedly asked the guy if he'd been drinking - probably getting inconsistent answers.
