My experiance at randolph was short lived, and not all that exciting.. we got to go TDY during RITA.. because for some reason, flying out of randolph seemed like a good idea at the time.. anyway.. we stayed in old base housing which was less then desirable.. but the base itself is decent.. lotsa O's if you like that sorta thing.. and the off-base entertainment is what you make of it.. i will say this.. stay away from Camelot....

I went to the altitude chamber there and it was one of the best looking bases I had ever been to. All the grass was a lush green and perfectly mowed.

Good times there. Tubed down the Comal(man-made river in town) for a few hours, beer in hand. Not too far is the Guadalupe River. Camped there Memorial Day weekend last year, floating down the river most of the day. Most beer I've ever drank in 5 days,

that will be a problem. unless you're married most nav students are forced to stay in the dorms. i'm not gonna lie - they suck balls. small (like studio apartment small), and you're constantly on base, which i really don't like (especially since they tend to do T-38 engine runups right as you're trying to go sleep like a block away). the only good part is that all the nav students live together so it's kind of like a college atmosphere.

it's also AETC HQ, so prepare for the most anal retentive base you could imagine. lots of brass (AFPC HQ is there as well), and the rules were just gay. at one point they tried to tell us we couldn't have a class party off base (which is bullshit). it goes through cycles though - when i first showed up, the O club was actually a cool place to go on Fridays and classes would have pretty raging drop-night (find out your assigned aircraft) parties, but then some idiot at another base got a DUI and they cracked down on that, prohibiting alcohol from drop nights, which is downright gay.

on the plus side - san antonio rocks, although it's expensive to cab in and out of the city every weekend, and the riverwalk is pretty pricy too. still, lots of fun though - one of the most fun cities i've ever been to.

o yeah you can drink at any place that serves food and you can drink as long as you are consuming food. SO weekends we can and once we hit 3rd Lt stats we can every day of the week.
