I have recently started liking Glocks... I definitely wouldn't mind getting a G18. :big grin:

What kind of hoops would I have to go through?

You cannot have one as a civilian. No new production machine guns for civilians since 1986. Mourn for the 2nd amendment on your way out please.

I believe there may be a few pre may '86 g17 auto conversion kits out there, but I've never seen one for sale.

well, there is SOME way to get them, isn't there? All those "dealer samples" I hear about. I don't think it's at all practical though.

I want to learn myself... what was the law that stated no new machine guns after 1986? Was it the Firearm Owners Protection Act?

Would I not be able to get a.... Hk MP5(I assume they're made after 1986) unless it was made before '86?

I believe, and I don't keep up with the details of the ffl system that much, that you'd need to be a class 3 dealer as well as get a letter from a leo group requesting a demo. We all certainly would have 01 ffl's if we could but most of us aren't dealers and couldn't, plus you'd need the sot. When you lost those you'd have to surrender the gun. I have also talked to people with an ffl/sot and they've said they're still not easy to get.

    Yup http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firearm_Owners_Protection_Act
Its why machine guns are so expensive and keep getting more expensive.

That's how I understood it too. I said it wasn't practical, but it IS possible. It'd take a shitload of work and money.

I understand that there are a small number of transferrable NFA Glock 18s in circulation. I hear the quantity is in the neighborhood of 3.

if there are (and I've never heard of any) they would be astronomically priced.

As sure as death and taxes.

Better luck finding a registered conversion kit or converted Glock 17, as I believe that many of these exist.

Rumor has it that damn-near every "Glock 18" video posted to youtube and the like is really a LE G18 or a converted 17... and likely none-too-legit given that the common backyard-looking videos all tend to feature masked "performers."

I expect that the G18s shown on some of the Knob Creek videos are legit G18s or legit conversions.

So how do you get a conversion kit? Pay a $200 tax and get the signatures and all that crap?

you'd have to find a transferable one for sale, pay his price, then pay the $200 stamp to have it transfered to you.

If you really want to get into full-auto just for shits & giggles, get a MAC-10 or MAC-11/9. I understand that there were multiple thousands of flat receivers registered right before the FOPA prohibition on new full-auto guns took effect, and still flats/unfinished receivers in circulation today... about the only "new" transferrable machine guns being produced.

"New" models are available for the bagain-basement price of ~$4000. Magazines are readily available thanks to the market for the semi-auto flavor.

I recall ShackleMeNot saying there aren't any G18's in circulation, and if anyone on here would know it'd be him. :dunno:

I've seen post sears for sale before I dont recall ever seeing any transferable ones, I imagine if there were any out there they would cost an arm and leg.

Yes, become a dealer and get a dealer sample, or get a mfg. lic. and convert one yourself. :naughty:

I've shot actual 18's and conversions. They're a novelty at best.

My buddy converted his older G19 to full auto and he said it's by far the most fun gun to shoot, but not practical at all.
