After reading all this stuff about when to cut and when to bulk, I've discovered something of a gray area.

    160 lbs. @ 18% bf

Cut or bulk? Goals would be to hit roughly 170-180 lbs. @ 10% bf.

Knowing F&N people will just tell you to stuff your face and bulk. I personally recomend cutting down to 10% first, then clean bulking untill you reach you goal. Yes, your bodyfat will increase slightly, but not nearly as much as on a conventional bulk.

Damnation posted an article from T-Nation about this recently. After reading that, I'd recommend cutting first as well.

I wouldn't bulk at 18% bodyfat that's for damn sure.
I don't think you have to necessarily cut all the way down to 10% either. Eat at maintenance or slightly below and get bodyfat down to between 12-15% while preferably adding some lean mass. Is this a noob?
If not get down to 12 and then eat just slightly above maintenance.

Do you eat well ? By changing your diet but being on maintenance you should lose some fat and gain some muscle, just like Timberwolf said.

I personally think its easier to gain strength when you're fat. So I'd try to increase LBM first. Plus, having more muslce on you makes you burn more calories all day long. Its easier to cut at 210 18% than 150 18%.

18% BF is kind of high especially at 160.
